Lesson Plan

Post-Diploma Certificate in Electrical Design & Management
Module
Electrical System Design
This module aims to refresh and deepen your knowledge in the design of electrical distribution systems for commercial and industrial installations. It will cover substation layout design, sizing and selection of switchgears, cables and transformers; protection scheme and relay selection and setting. Computer software such as ETAP or equivalent will be used to simulate and optimize the performance of electrical distribution systems. You will also learn the operation principles and design of micro-grid with renewable energy sources and energy storage systems.
Module
Electrical Project Management
Equips you with the latest project management methodology and skills to work at management level on large industrial, commercial and domestic projects. Helps you to become better at planning and managing project objectives in terms of scope, schedule and cost. This module covers general contract administration skills, budget estimation, cost and quality management, schedule and time management, managing procurement, identification of risk and development of risk management strategies.
Module
Project 1
You are expected to propose a module-related project to demonstrate the knowledge and skills that they have acquired from the modules. The module will be graded based on a final presentation and report.
Post-Diploma Certificate in Electrical Operation and Maintenance
Module
Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Systems
Equips you with the technical knowledge and skills for testing and commissioning of power distribution systems. This module covers identification of protection schedule of the network, the testing standards, the operation and working principles of testing equipment and the testing procedures required by the authorities. It includes the key areas of Electricity Regulations (Electricity Installations) and standard tests such as primary injection test, secondary injection test, high voltage insulation test, earth resistance test, transformer ratio and vector group test, as well as protection relay testing and setting.
Module
Operation and Maintenance of Electrical Systems
Aims to deepen the skills and knowledge of students in the safe operation and maintenance of power distribution systems. This module covers the operation principles and maintenance standards of low and high voltage equipment such as switchgears, circuit breakers, transformers, metering and protection relays. This module also covers partial discharge measurement, electrical safety requirements, electrical turn-on/shut down procedures and first aid for electrical accident.
Module
Project 2
In this module, you are expected to propose a module-related project to demonstrate the knowledge and skills that they have acquired from the modules. The module will be graded based on a final presentation and report.
