Course Information

With a spur in Asia’s economic growth, particularly in the Greater China Market, the acquired skills and knowledge in this course will enable the business development manager to build up their language capabilities and reach out to more clients.

In the midst of doing so, the translation skills will also help them to ensure that the company’s products and services are accurately represented across different correspondences and platforms. The workshop is aligned to the wholesale trade ITM, in particular in the areas of building language capabilities and accessing overseas market.

This course consists of 6 modules:

Introduction to Basic Translation Techniques and Linguistic Differences in English and Chinese

Instructor will give an introduction of some basic translation techniques and linguistic differences in English and Chinese to prepare students for actual business translation.

Basic Translation of Commercial Correspondences

Instructor will provide an overview of the basic translation principles and examples of commercial correspondences for critique and evaluation._x000D_

Participants will be guided on the actual practice of local commercial  correspondences and present their translation work for feedback from instructor.

Basic Translation of Company Names & Trademarks

Instructor will provide an overview of the basic translation principles and examples of company names and trademarks for critique and evaluation._x000D_

Participants will be guided on the actual practice of local company names & trademarks and present their translation work for feedback from instructor.

Trainer's Profile

Neo Keng Hwee

Mr Neo Keng Hwee has over ten years of experience in the teaching of Chinese Language in local secondary schools and junior colleges, as well as translation courses in various private and tertiary institutions which include Singapore Chinese Chamber and Institute of Business (SCCIOB), Confucius Institute, NTU and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Coupled with his double Master Degree from National University of Singapore (NUS) and Peking University (PKU) and his extensive range of teaching experience in the domain of language translation to adult learners at various institutions, he is a highly accredited trainer for the CET translation courses.

Certification

A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).

Proficiency in both English and Chinese is required (O Level Passes in both English and Chinese or any other qualifications which may be deemed equivalent)
