Course Information

Analytical Science focuses on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of chemicals, which plays an essential role in all types of manufacturing.

This course is suitable for personnel who are working or seeking employment in industries involved in the testing, analysis and production of petrochemicals, specialized chemicals and pharmaceuticals, or relevant sectors in analytical laboratories, oil & energy, environmental & water technology and material science.

Skills-Based Modular Courses (SBMC) are available. Please view Lesson Plan to find relevant SBMC. SBMC are bite-sized part-time courses for individuals to acquire new skills or deepen relevant skills, without the need to pursue a full diploma.

Module
Liquid Chromatography
Focuses on the detailed operations of HPLC, UHPLC, and associated detectors from method development to method validation and troubleshooting.
Module
Mass Spectrometry
Covers the principles of mass spectrometry and its instrumentation in LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS and MS-MS. It also covers interpretation of mass spectra and the application of mass spectrometry.

Quality Assurance & Quality Control
Introduces GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), quality standards, standard templates, CAPA (corrective and preventive action), change control and deviations.
Module
Analytical Applications and Management 2
Gives you an opportunity to apply your skills and knowledge on a project based on the modules covered in the semester and prepare a report.

You are required to complete 2 post-diploma certificates within 2-year validity period to be awarded the Specialist Diploma qualification.


Entry Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:

    A local Polytechnic Diploma/Degree in science or engineering with a chemistry component (e.g. life science, chemical science, chemical engineering).

    Applicants with other qualifications and significant work experience will also be considered.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)_x000D_
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
