Lesson Plan

Post-Diploma Certificate in Student Management

Understand the various developmental stages faced by students. Learn strategies to manage students' behavior (including challenging behaviors), facilitation skills to manage group behavior and classroom management techniques.

Understanding Student Services
Introduces major theories in child development and their implications on general student care practices and programme implementation. It also equips you with knowledge of basic measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their students.

*Exemptions are available for those who have passed the assessments for 'WSQ Introductory Student Care Centre' and 'Working with Children: Behaviour and Guidance'
Module
Managing Challenging Behavior
Covers a various developmental issues faced by school-going children (including special needs) and examine the causes of challenging behavior. This module also trains you on how to develop and implement basic behavioral strategies based on this understanding. *Participants who had passed all the assessments for "Working with Children: Behaviour and Guidance" will be exempted from the module "Managing Challenging Behaviour".

Managing Classroom and Group Behaviour
Covers effective classroom management techniques so as to provide an orderly and conducive learning environment for students. You will also be introduced to Group Theory and Group Dynamics Theory and learn facilitation skills to effectively manage and moderate group activities.
Post-Diploma Certificate in Programme & Centre Management
Acquire strategies to design and implement effective programmes and activities that enhance students' learning and character development. Develop supervisory skills to manage a centre that provides student-related services, from engaging with parents and other stakeholders, to mentoring and coaching staff, and identifying ways to improve processes and operations at the centre.

Developing and Implementing Effective Programmes
Introduces a systematic framework of programme development which will guide you in the stages of needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Module
Managing Stakeholders: Engaging Parents & Community
Covers an understanding of the various roles a student care professional plays in working with children, families, other professionals in the community in the holistic care of students. You will learn strategies to engage and partner families and community stakeholders in supporting the overall care of students.
Module
Enhancing Centre and Human Resource Management
Introduces you to a range of processes that will help to support the operation and human resource management at their centres. This module examines the rationales and effectiveness of the current operations and identify ways to develop more effective processes to improve the overall efficiency of the centre. Legal and ethical considerations in student care practices are also addressed in this module.

You are required to complete 2 post-diploma certificates within 2-year validity period to be awarded the Diploma (Conversion) qualification.


Entry Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:

  • A local Polytechnic Diploma or Degree with at least 1-year relevant working experience
  • _x000D_

  • State-recognized University Degree in any discipline where the medium of instruction is English and with at least 1-year relevant working experience.
  • _x000D_

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)_x000D_
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
